A true Manly showpiece, N&H House redefines coasta

A true Manly showpiece, N&H House redefines coastal luxury with cutting-edge smart home technology and refined architectural design. Perched above Shelly Beach, it captures uninterrupted ocean views while seamlessly reconnecting home and landscape through a sculptural bridge linking living spaces to the pool and garden.

This new build replaces a compromised 1980s structure with a sustainable, light-filled sanctuary tailored for modern family living. Across its split levels, expansive cantilevers, terraces, and operable elements blur the line between indoors and out, while thoughtful zoning creates spaces for entertaining, retreat, and everyday comfort.

From a state-of-the-art wine cellar and rumpus level to the elevated living pavilion and private parents’ retreat, every detail enhances flow, functionality, and connection to the site. A sandstone-clad lift ensures long-term accessibility, while advanced systems—heat-recovery ventilation, insulated concrete walls, and integrated smart controls—deliver performance, efficiency, and total environmental control.

M&D California Bungalow, Artarmon.

This bungalow had beautiful period charm but a dark, cramped layout and years of wear from the rental market. The brief was to modernise the home, retain its character, and increase living space — without building up or extending into the garden.

Our solution was a split-level design that unlocks the potential of the existing footprint. By extending the living areas into the undercroft and introducing an open-plan Kitchen/Living/Dining space with extensive joinery, every square metre now works harder.

A north-facing courtyard within the building envelope draws natural light deep into the home, while high ceilings, clerestory windows and deep eaves balance sunlight, comfort and energy performance year-round.

The result is a revitalised, light-filled home that feels larger, calmer and far more functional — without increasing the building’s footprint.

What a wonderful year it has been at Archisoul Architects. From celebrating three award wins to completing a number of beautiful contemporary projects, and seeing many more come to life, we are deeply grateful for all that 2025 has brought.

To our clients, industry friends, suppliers, and dedicated team, thank you for your collaboration, and support throughout another incredible year.

Building on the success of last year’s charity poll, we’ll be supporting another worthwhile cause this Christmas. Instead of a lot of small gifts for clients and suppliers, we’d like to make a bigger impact with a lump sum donation that will benefit hundreds of people.

This year we are donating $1,500 to HKL.org – an international charity demonstrating and encouraging people to live with Humility, Kindness and Love, including at the inaugural Sydney event on January 31 – Feb 1, 2026.

DESIGN AWARDS!

Archisoul’s own Jo Gillies and Russell Rice have taken home three major honours across the BETTER FUTURE Sydney Design Awards and the Middle East Design Awards 2025.

Their award-winning work? An energy-efficient family home prototype in Dubai (slide 2) and a wildlife conservation centre in Kenya (slide 3) — two projects that push the boundaries of sustainable, human-centred design.

By merging timeless architectural wisdom with modern materials and Archisoul’s signature refined aesthetic, Jo and Russell have created something rare: design that is both beautifully functional and formally exceptional.

R&L Beach House – Manly

A once cramped Manly beachside cottage has been transformed into a light-filled family sanctuary. The redesign removed an old extension to make way for an airy new addition with a lounge and flexible bedroom/workspace. A raised roofline opened up lush garden views, while a new upper storey provides a peaceful parents’ retreat with sweeping district outlooks.

Natural light floods the home through skylights and double-glazed windows, complemented by organic materials and a stone fireplace for warmth and texture. The preserved façade maintains the home’s traditional charm, while the rear addition forms a striking, contemporary “cathedral of light.”

Designed with passive solar principles and natural ventilation, the home achieves both comfort and efficiency — a thoughtful balance of beauty and functionality.
