We have just finished building a new home on the northern beaches of Sydney. In choosing an architect, we brought a challenging brief to the table, in terms of site constraints, land orientation, budget, and most importantly, a contemporary ‘beach-living’ design style.

I am happy to say Jo Gillies and her team “got us” immediately. Within two meetings, they had 90% of our design on paper. In our pre-DA meeting on site, council were pleased with the striking and attractive plan presented, (clever use of the shape of our land), and how the design complied with their development guidelines.

Jo, Carole and the gang are easy to work with, professional, energetic, on top of the details, and we are delighted with our finished product.

Jo Gillies and Luciana Bittencourt transformed my 60’s suburban house into the quintessential contemporary Australian family home. Having lived in the house for over 20 years, they were sensitive and receptive to our pre-conceived ideas of what we liked and disliked about the existing house.

Jo and Luciana listened, guided, advised and responded with design ideas and solutions that satisfied all our requirements, always with patience and a sense of humour. Jo and her team are a pleasure to work with and, more importantly, the house is a pleasure to live in.

Wow! What a project for a first home build. The opportunity to undertake this project was one golden chance of a lifetime and our choice of collaborators has proven that great relationships with professional and skilled advisors has delivered to us our new abode of which we are immensely satisfied with the outcome and we even enjoyed the entire daunting process.

Archisoul has undoubtedly proved why a skilled architect can create ambience and yet deliver coziness in an open plan design. Our brief to Jo Gillies was to maximize the sites natural position to take in North and South views, combined with harnessing the prevailing winds to enhance passive cooling and to optimize the land use to allow for a generous yard for our children to enjoy and also a double garage. This brief was also to deliver an ‘upside down’ house design, which places living areas on the upper floor and bedrooms on the lower floor with access to the yard and garden. This specific feature was in response to how our family uses the space and how we could maximize the north and south views in everyday living.

Well, Principal Jo Gillies entrusted the job to talented French Architect Carol Huard, who delivered a detailed design after an initial consultation and site meeting within 2 weeks and the plans evolved from there to eventually form part of a set of DA documents ready to submit to council within 8 months. In keeping us constantly briefed and engaged in the process with update meetings and offering many insights into the design and planning process, including material selection and sustainable environmental considerations, Archisoul delivered all documents including anticipated S.96 modifications and expected neighbor objections in a short time frame and managed the entire DA process in a timely and efficient manner – a notable undertaking that many people experience great difficulty in achieving.

We are very proud to be associated with Jo Gillies and owe her and particularly Carol a great big bottle of quality French Champagne for fulfilling our brief in its entirety.

The creative wonder of Jo and Kirrili transformed our original 1960’s house into a modern and functional home, thoughtfully integrated with the outdoors. Not only were they both perceptive about our needs in terms of design, style and cost but they were also able to tap into the sensitivities of how we like to live.

Using a basic frame of initial thoughts and ideas they proceeded to create a stunning flawless plan oozing with inspiration, enhancement and practicality. We were completely stunned and seduced with what was presented to us. To top it off, Jo and Kirrili were not only extremely professional, responsive, accommodating and supportive they were really easy, fun and enjoyable to work with. The foundation of their design excellence, cooperative team work and high quality construction achieved this delightful renovation outcome far exceeding our expectations. We just love our new home. Archisoul are a great team of forward-thinking Architects who maintain an ecologically aware soul! With awareness of permaculture, the uniquiness of each site and the sacred geometry of spaces, they are equally at home when designing large and complex projects as they are with creating the tiniest beautiful detail. We are currently in the process of undertaking a number of exciting residential projects with them along with a challenging commercial project – which will be quite amazing once complete.
