Nestled in a leafy little oasis above the beach, C&K House has been totally rebuilt to capitalise on its brilliant location.
When the owners purchased the property in 2021, it was liveable but very outdated and in urgent need of repairs. Like many older homes, the layout was awkward and didn’t facilitate contemporary living. With its narrow dimensions the building profile was overwhelmed by a dilapidated, single garage at the front, significantly compromising the home’s street appeal.
A positive feature was the multitude of windows but their odd placement failed to capture the light, leading to dark and unwelcoming indoor spaces. In keeping with its vintage, the house lacked sufficient storage space for a growing family and little thought had gone into providing privacy. It quickly became clear that the home’s enormous potential, would only be realised with a total overhaul.
Archisoul was engaged to completely redesign and modernise the house from the basement up to bring into the 21st century.
The owners had a clear vision, inspired by one of their own artworks. The stunning seascape set the tone: modern coastal architecture in a neutral palette with white walls, timber floors and organic materials throughout.
The design brief sought to maximise light, space, storage and street appeal to create a beautiful, functional home to meet the needs of four adult occupants.
The aim was to convert a small, narrow, dark house into a light-filled, capacious home at one with its coastal setting.
Archisoul embraced the challenge with a fully reimagined home, nothing like its predecessor.
To overcome the limitations of a narrow footprint, Archisoul utilised extensive joinery solutions throughout the home. Built-in bench seating with deep drawers beneath free up space and provide plentiful storage options. Integrated appliances optimise space and functionality while minimising clutter.
Wide windows placed to capitalise on the property’s north-east aspect and a west-facing, plant-filled courtyard illuminate the corridors and stairwell, suffusing the home in soft, warm light all through the day.
Featuring curved, white walls, wide floorboards, and stone and timber materials, C&K House evokes an organic, Zen aesthetic. Its flowing floorplan seamlessly connects the screened garden and covered terrace to the living area, tempering minimalist sophistication with a sense of natural space.
