A&S House – Collaroy

This mini renovation project on Sydney’s Northern Beaches proves that less is indeed more. Our design dramatically increased light and liveability in a small house not by enlarging its floor area but by carefully re-prioritising the existing spaces.

Instead of adding elements to the home, the new design steps away from a layout dominated by a series of dark separate rooms to embrace an open plan layout.

Reconfiguring the floor plan suffused the home in natural light and created better connectivity with the rear garden to integrate outdoor space into the overall living area.

Archisoul also devised several clever design solutions maximise the utility of the limited internal space. Joinery provides both storage and extra seating area, and extending the window frame outward, enabled the creation of a box window seat, negating the need for a chair on the fourth side of the dining table.

Birch plywood joinery and warm timber flooring tie the space together with refined minimalist detailing. Timber battens and wood burning stove extend the living area onto the covered deck for all-weather entertaining.
