Seventeen Seventy – Elliot

The town of 1770 is seven kilometres from Agnes Water. It boasts Australia’s northernmost surf beach, which is also the closest beach to the outer Great Barrier Reef.

It is a seriously stunning place with breathtaking views and an interesting history. Captain Cook landed here in 1770 so they named it after the year he landed ashore. The triplex townhouse was designed for a client who is passionate about the area and wanted to have one townhouse for each family member to use.

These townhouses are uniquely designed due to the steeper site constraints. The upper floor area enjoys expansive westerly views ideal for watching the sun set from the suspended plunge pool or the living/ dining and kitchen area. The middle floor contains bedrooms and bathrooms and the lower floor a garage and storage area with water tanks.

One of the more unique features are the overhang eaves. Pitched at incrementally higher angles, they fan across the roofline ensuring that each home captures light and breeze. During the winter months, when the sun sits lower in the sky, they allow warmth and light to penetrate into each home. The fanned roof junctions also enhance privacy while providing an uninterrupted view corridor.
